Volunteer
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. OLLI at Emory could not function without the dedicated service of the members who volunteer. Volunteering creates a more vibrant learning community and connects you to other OLLI members. It’s a great way to make new friends and is personally satisfying and rewarding. Volunteer jobs vary in time commitment, skills needed and frequency.
How can you get involved? There are many tasks to help with, from daily routine items during class days to volunteering on an OLLI Committee.
- Greeting people
- Handing out name tags
- Making sure everyone is masked
- Taking temperatures of students
- Directing students to their classrooms
- Showing students where everything is in our building.
- Answering the phone and taking requests down for OLLI staff
- Classroom Hosts, Course Facilitators
Volunteer for an OLLI Committee
You can contribute your ideas and expertise by volunteering to serve on an OLLI committee. Each committee has a different function and time requirement. Below are the current standing committees. You are welcome to join a committee at any time by letting the OLLI staff (olli@emory.edu) or committee chair know of your interest.
CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
The Curriculum Committee’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Recruiting instructors.
- Recommending new areas of programming, new locations and audiences.
- Planning, developing, and evaluating the curriculum and instructors.
- Hosting instructor orientation, workshops, and instructor appreciation events.
- Developing Class Representatives to assist instructors.

EVENTS AND HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE
The Events and Hospitality Committee’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Fosters a friendly, welcoming, and open OLLI community by planning opportunities for our members to connect and socialize, enjoy local events, and learn about the Atlanta area.
- Hosts the new member Meet and Greet and the Holiday party in December.Communicates and collaborates with OLLI Travel Committee.

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
The Communication Committee’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Publicizing OLLI programming to attract a broader demographic.
- Publicizing OLLI events and volunteer opportunities to OLLI members.
- Providing communication and marketing assistance to various committees
- Promoting consistency and clarity of OLLI communication.
- Providing plans to more frequently and more productively communicate with members.

INSTRUCTOR AND TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT COMMITTEE
The Instructor and Technology Support Committee’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing a variety of technology-based services in support of OLLI courses.
- Tech-savvy committee members take on tasks such as teaching PowerPoint or Zoom skills to instructors, training OLLI facilitators on Zoom, or serving as online course Host/Co-hosts.
- On occasion, helping set up classroom equipment for Hyflex courses.

MEMBERSHIP AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE
The Membership and Community Engagement Committee's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Working with OLLI staff to develop and enact plans that will recruit, orient, and retain new OLLI members.
- Helping to connect and promote relationships with community partners to recruit members and build community awareness of OLLI program.
- Promoting opportunities for involvement with community partners
